You just told them, “Your not going out with your friends this weekend for whatever reason”, There’s a huge fight, either you, or they lost total control. Now your regretting it, and you can cut the tension at home with a knife – you may even be walking on eggshells to avoid a follow-up to what happened. It would be an understatement to say being a teenager today is a walk in the park. It’s important to understand, it’s not their fault. The pressures of todays society, social media culture and economy have left our teenagers feeling stressed, and stuck.
Any parent of a teenager today knows, teens can be distracted, distant, and rude at times. But while this can sometimes be a source of stress and conflict for families, it’s also usually a completely normal part of being a teenager. However, sometimes, this can be a sign of mental health issues which can be easily lead to much bigger issues later on. In the worst case these issues if unchecked and not dealt with are carried through to adulthood. This can manifest as bad behaviour, however, it’s often more a call for help.
“It’s not my teen it’s those he/she hangs out with!” When we hear that, we think, “Maybe that’s so, but the reason they hangs out with that group is they resonate with them” Besides, parents of those other kids are probably saying the same thing about your teenager. The old saying “birds of a feather do flock together” is especially true for teenagers because at that age, they want is to fit in. They want acceptance. As a result, any critique around their choice on friends will be met with great resistance.
We specialise in working together with parents, as martial arts instructors we carry an authority, which alongside the tools that Choi Kwang Do provides, allows us to help teenagers release stress and develop emotionally healthy relationships with themselves and others. We work with complete beginners and pride ourselves on our welcoming, friendly atmosphere.
At our school, we create a safe, and positive environment, where teenagers learn to communicate, learn life skills, focus and self discipline. They have the opportunity to develop leadership skills which will serve them in college, university and beyond.
With this approach, we have seen significant shift in behaviour and respect towards elders, and we continue work alongside parents, to ensure changes remain consistent and favourable both at school and home. With so much uncertainty on a global scale right now, we have a martial art that is highly beneficial for better mental health, clarity and academic performance.
Teach them life skills now they will treasure forever
Our instructors all have plenty of experience working with students of all ages and abilities. We are passionate about your child’s progress and can assure you we will be there to support and progress their journey in Choi Kwang Do so they build positive traits and habits
We really do specialise in working with complete beginners, we are patient and able to adapt the pace of our classes to make sure that everyone benefits. No experience what so ever is needed.
We believe that more then the Martial Art, that our school can act as an amazing way to bring the community together. That’s the environment we have here – one in which your children are safe and happy in their training, while creating new friends too!
Most of our students feel an instant boost of energy after starting their martial arts journey with us
Bent double, like old beggars under sacks, Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge, Till on the haunting flares2 we turned our backs And towards our distant rest3 began to trudge. Men marched asleep. dropped behind.
